092 GASTLY Gas Pc The gas musu, Gastly, are mischievous spirits that use purple mist as a means to cross into the world of the living. Because the soul cannot interact with the physical world without the mist, said vapor engulfs the entirety of their body. Gastly can be found in places where the barrier between life and death is thin. Graveyards, abandoned battlefields as well as other places racked with grief and pain are perfect for Gastly to make their crossing. Nearly every human settlement has stories that parents tell to their children in an effort to scare them into good behavior. Many of said stories involve Gastly, though they tend to vary in their depiction of the musu. Some say Gastly crawl into the ears of kids who lie and steal their memories. Others claim they spirit unruly children to the land of the dead. They vary significantly and all are incorrect. The dead have no reason to fight. Instead Gastly focus on terrifying others. Physical attacks are useless against them but skilled psychics can tamper with their connection to the physical world and even exorcise them from the mortal realm. This can be done with many spirits but is most; effective with those like Gastly. ■Trainer Tips Bonding with a Gastly requires a strong nerve. As one must enjoy being subjected to a Ghastly's frights to win their affection. "We attempted to get an interview with a Gastly but they said they'd only submit to that if they could put something scary in our records. Naturally we refused because, BOO! Ha I got you FOOOOOOLS! None can escape my spookiness!"- An anonymous Gastly Threat Level: Medium W '¿j
* 093 HAUNTER ■Trainer Tips There are rumors that Haunters bond with the souls of those they kill. Interweaving with one another in a union beyond pain and pleasure. "There she lurks, in the dark, Haunter jumps, with a start, you can't run, you can't hide, she'll drag you too, the other side..." - A Kantonian Nursery rhyme Threat Level: High • Gas Pokemusu________________ Few gaze upon the garish purple visage of a Haunter and live to tell a-bout it. From the few accounts we have on record, the musu is enshrouded in purple mist and has large disjointed hands with three fingers. They can easily hide in darkness and seldom show themselves to anyone besides their victims. Haunter prefer to stay in dark areas near human settlements. Such as alleyways and abandoned homes. From these vantage points they find it easy to prey upon humans. There are many horror stories centered around Haunter, most referencing their ability to mimic the voices of others. A skill they use to lure unsuspecting victims to them. Its said that Haunter can't stand light, so wary humans will carry lanterns into dark a-reas to avoid a Haunter's wrath. Battling a Haunter is a fool's errand. As brief contact with their tongue will drain the lifeforce of anyone they come in contact with. This coupled with their ability to fade into darkness and their propensity for trickery make it difficult to avoid their traps. Only a seasoned Psychic has a chance of sending Haunter back to the afterlife and even then, Haunter employ many tactics to distract such individuals.
Rarely seen, Gengar are a musu that appear to be made of shadows themselves. They're a dark purple hue and despite their large size, are lighter than air. They have large purple points that look sharp but disperse like vapor when touched physically. As of now, we have no clues where they come from or why they're here. Unlike other ghost musu, Gengar are quite mobile with their ability to hide within and manipulate shadows. Because of this plenty of Gengar will hide in the darkness underneath traveler's wagons to visit new villages in search of new people to scare. The earliest work of Kantonian literature is an epic poem depicting the young Nidorino, Boak, and his quest to track down and defeat the malevolent Gengar Hagatha, after she stole his betrothed's shadow. It's considered a timeless classic and has had countless interpretations. Despite many people's negative associations with Gengar. They don't like fighting and will always disengage to avoid confrontation. They do still enjoy terrifying others though and will take every opportunity to do so. Though they rarely mean any physical harm. ■Trainer Tips Gengar don't allow themselves to be approached. As such all bonds on record were initiated by the Gengar. The musu refuses interviews, so we don't know their criteria for bonding. ''an infernal shadow dripped upward from the lifeless ashes. It's sanguine eyes smoldered in the night and teeth reflected Boak's face like a mirror." - Boak's Odyssey, pg194.
