Contrary to popular opinion, Slugma musu are NOT made of magma, but they DO run pretty hot, so if one of them gets cool enough to touch that means they trust you with their life!
Magcargo are actually better at regulating their temperature than Slugma, so they're more likely to be seen with partners, all they need is someone who doesn't mind if things get a bit hot!

18 SLUGMA During the construction process for expanding kanto’s trade routes, the diggers accidentally breached a volcanic tunnel that stretched the region. This inadvertently led to the discovery of Slugma villages just below the ground’s surface. Kanto society is still trying to figure out what to make of this situation. Slugma have a somewhat gelatinous body that requires constant heating to maintain stability. Heat from the sun isn’t enough either, which is why they primarily live in or around volcanoes and similar locales. Rumors about the musu are being spread wildly in the wake of their discovery, some even speculating that the musu can raise its temperature enough to set the air itself ablaze. But this is heavily exaggerated. While the musu can adjust their body temperature significantly, they cannot reach the thresholds being described. Few physical threats exist to lava and the same can be said for Slugma. Contact with the musu can lead to dangerous burns or worse and the musu is capable of using fire magic as well. The only true weakness it has are spells that can rapidly reduce its body temperature as that can prove lethal to it. sTrainer Tips Slugma can bond with humans though they are hesitant to do so as making contact with a human requires reducing their body temperature to a dangerous level. Threat Level: Medium 4^ Some industrious slugma have discovered that volcanic rocks can act as a sort of heat battery for them. Allowing them greater freedom for travel outside of extreme temperatures. These musu are called "magcargo ". Because they like to "go" as they say. (The inspiration for the rest of their name isn’t currently known.) Many Slugma that take this path have a bit of wanderlust and end up taking careers as tradesman and merchants. This allows them to see more of the world but also keeps them in contact with sources to get the heated rock they need to survive. Magcargo are a fairly new phenomenon, as before the meeting of human and slugma, the musu had little need to utilize this technique. As such many humans view them as interchangeable with slugma. Scientifically, they are distinct from Slugma though and are categorized as such. Since they share slugmas extreme body temperature, Magcargo have an incredible natural defense against physical attacks. Some have theorized Magcargo to be weaker than Slugma on account of their volcanic rock slowing them down. But the musu is capable of smashing their "shells" to gain a burst of speed to compensate.
